  • Ventral and umbilical  hernia surgery
  • Skin cancer surgery, including melanoma
  • Pilonidal sinus
  • Hydrocoele, epididymal and scrotal cysts
  • Adult (medical) circumcision
  • Lipoma, sebaceous cysts and other lumps
  • Lymph node biopsy
  • Paediatric hernia (>5 yrs old)
  • Central vein access port insertion (for chemotherapy)


Colorectal surgery

  • Haemorrhoidectomy
  • Banding haemorrhoids
  • Anal fissure surgery
  • Anal fistula and abscess surgery
  • Anal polyps and skin tags


Skin cancer

  • BCC/SCC/Melanoma  Excision and repair including graft and flap as needed


Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy

  • Diagnostic
  • Screening (when indicated)
  • Surveillance
  • Interventional (polypectomy, dilation of stricture,  PEG’s)


Open access colonoscopy/gastroscopy

  • All open access procedures are organized at the Mater Private Hospital, Rockhampton.
  • No formal surgical consultation is required
  • The reasons (indications) for the procedure are decided by GP/Referring doctor
  • All pre procedure patient advice is done by GP/Referring doctor
  • All follow up is by the GP/Referring doctor
  • Not everyone is suitable for open access, see exclusions below


Exclusions to “Open Access” colonoscopy / gastroscopy

These patients will require a pre-procedure consultation and are NOT suitable for open access.

  • Age:   younger than 18 or older than 80
  • Insulin dependent diabetes
  • Bowel preparation sensitivities, intolerance and allergies
  • Anti-coagulation (not aspirin)
  • Heart stents, or prosthetic valves, valvular heart disease, pacemakers
  • Myocardial infarction within 6 months, Unstable angina
  • Renal failure or significant impairment
  • Significant or severe respiratory disease
  • Patients requiring on going management, formal evaluation and diagnosis or consultation
  • Transplant patients
  • Patients wishing to personally consult with Dr Day prior to the procedure
  • Patients whom have special needs, questions, concerns or anxieties
  • Patients who may require a night in hospital before or after procedure


Age restrictions

  • Dr Day does not treat any patient under 5 years of age.
  • Patients from 5-18 may be accepted for condition specific referrals, and a phone call to our office prior to the referral will clarify the situation
